Local rules have limits

Detection runs in your browser with local rules, not with a machine learning model. It finds emails, phone numbers, payment cards, IPv4 addresses, links and identifiers in known formats.

Names, addresses and secrets usually need a label, such as “Name:” or “Address:”. The rules can miss unusual spellings, mixed alphabets and unlisted formats.

If the app finds nothing, the text can still contain personal information.

Correct misses and false matches

Uncheck suggestions that you want to keep. Select a missed passage and add a manual replacement.

Add exact passages to the dictionary. Add values that are safe to keep to the exclusions. Bulk replacement shows every match before you apply it.

Context matches need a check. A checksum or format match is not a probability.

Check the context

SYNTHETIC EXAMPLE ONLY: you replace Test Person Cedar and pii-canary@example.com, but “the village’s only evening workshop” stays. That context can still identify a person.

Read the full result before you share it. The final review is your responsibility.
