Local files

Your browser reads TXT files and CSV and JSON fields. Save the protected file in the same format.

File limits and restoration

PDF, DOCX, images and OCR are not supported yet. Files do not go to a server. Restoration returns text; it does not recreate the original file.

Restore your details
in the same tab.

The replacement map stays only in the memory of this tab. Nothing goes to a server.

How restore and erasure work →
Where the map is keptThis tab
ProtectRestoreErased

By default, the map is erased after your first successful restore.

Map, erasure and recovery files

Reloading the page, closing the tab or “Clear everything” erases the map. There is no document history.

To restore later, save an encrypted recovery file and its separate secret. You control these copies.

Questions

What to know before you start.

Do I need an account?

No. The browser version works without an account, a password or a passkey.

Does my text go to a server?

No. Detection, replacement and restore run in your browser. The page blocks network connections, and the site does not set cookies.

Do I need an API key for my AI tool?

No. You use your AI tool separately and copy the protected text into it.

Does RemovePII find all sensitive information?

No. Local rules can miss details or flag ordinary text. Review the result and add anything missed before you share it.

What if the AI changes a placeholder?

Restore needs the placeholders exactly as RemovePII wrote them. Ask the AI to keep them unchanged, and check the answer before you restore it.

How long can I restore the answer?

While the map is in this tab. By default, the map is erased after the first successful restore. Turn this off before you restore if you must restore more than once.

Is the protected text anonymous?

No. The map can restore placeholders, and the remaining context can identify someone.

Can context still identify someone?

Yes. A rare job, an event or a small town can identify someone, even without a name.
